Poor Pete Rose. For awhile, it looked as though 2015 might be the year when finallyâ??FINALLYâ??MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred would pardon the equal parts famous and infamous Cincinnati Red and restore him in the good graces of the League and clear a path to the Hall of Fame.
But weeks of waiting for a decision turned to months, and at least at the time of this writing, when the aroma of Thanksgiving feasts are heralding the advent of Advent and the beginning of the end of the yearâ??no smoke has come from Manfredâ??s chimney to clue the world in on his thinking.
Thatâ??s the thing about sports. Where there is opportunity for heroics, there is temptation for cutting the corner, noodling the numbers, doing the dope. And while fans will tsk-tsk about the players and teams who make the mess, that doesnâ??t mean they donâ??t enjoy reading about them. The popular television show Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) is returning to Belterra Casino Resort in March for a 12-day poker series that will culminate with an $1,100 (buy-in) nationally televised Main Event. Players can can get in on the action for as little as $60 in preliminary events and satellites, and compete against some of the best players from around the region.
This will mark the fourth time Belterra has hosted an HPT series. In the first three visits more than $1.1 million dollars in prize money was awarded to participating poker players.

Red Wing, MN — (February 9, 2016) Treasure Island Resort & Casino unveiled The Lagoon and Wave Spa Water park, spa and fitness center today with much anticipation. The water park, called The Lagoon, is 40,000 square feet of fun and relaxation. It was a $19 million dollar project that began in May 2015. It is also the second largest of its kind among the 18 Native American Casinos in Minnesota.
The Lagoon features a 320â?? long lazy river with rapids, a water fall and an island in the middle of the pool that has benches and lounge chairs. There is 119,000 gallons of water between all four pools and a state-of-the-art eco green filtration system that utilizes natural Sphagnum Moss as a pre-filter water conditioner that is much healthier for swimmers.
The two body slides loop around and are 276â?? in length and a zero depth plunge pool that is 80â?? long with water features and a toucan slide for kids.
There is an adult only pool and two hot tubs, one inside and one outside. The Barefoot Bar is the only swim up bar in Minnesota with tables and seats in the pool.
There is 14,000â?? of outdoor terrace space with three outdoor areas that can be rented for private parties or events. When the weather is nice, there are two 12â?? retractable glass panels that can be opened up during the warmer summer months. Custom fire pits on the terrace add to the outdoor experience.
â??The Lagoon water park and Wave Spa are key elements in the continued growth of Treasure Island. The relaxation room has a wall fire feature, lounge chairs and can accommodate up to 12 people. Catering is available for special spa events.

Shelley Buck noted the economic impact this project had in the region. â??We have hired more than 30 new team members, with payroll and benefit value of over $500,000 annually. Treasure Island now employs more than 1,500 people. There was also more than 80 new construction jobs created during this project. RSP Architects in Minneapolis provided architectural design services. Their creative innovation resulted in an amazing tropical water park and spa. Knutson Construction was the design-builder on the water park and spa. RSP Architects and Knutson have been the partners of choice on several other major projects at Treasure Island including the addition in 2008 of the Island Event Center and second hotel tower, bowling center, Tado Steakhouse, Tradewinds Buffet renovation and Parlay Lounge. Jonathon Kinchen, a 33-year-old University of Texas graduate in real estate in Austin, is gunning for a record $2.8 million payday for a horseplayer if he wins the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship Presented by Racetrack Television Network and Treasure Island Las Vegas, set to kick off Thursday at Treasure Island. As winner of the season-long NHC Tour, Kinchen is now eligible for a $2 million bonus if he also wins the NHC finale, which carries an $800,000 first-place prize.
He will have the maximum two of more than 600 entries for the Jan. 28-30 championship.
As a rookie last year, Kinchen finished seventh and 11th in the championship, which Daily Racing Form contests editor Peter Fornatale called â??one of the most impressive feats in the history of the event.â?
